6 carriers to launch new China-East Africa service

ESL, GFS, IAL, KMTC, RCL and TSL will jointly launch a new China-East Africa service starting from November 2023. The service will call at Qingao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Port Klang, Mombasa, Dar Es Salaam, Port Klang, Qingdao on a 56 day rotation using up to 8 ships of 2,400-3,000 teu. The service will be branded as the RCL East Africa (REA) service by RCL while the other partners to the service have not yet announced their assigned service names.

Transmasters emerge as new operator of Wan Hai 260 ships

Russian container carrier Transmasters have taken control of 3 former Wan Hai ships of 1,662 teu for its China-Russia service. The 3 ships - WAN HAI 261, WAN HAI 262, WAN HAI 263 - were originally to be sold for scrap but they have been retaken by Chinese owners and renamed as HONRISE, NEW EVERPROSPER and STAR BRIGHT respectively. The 3 ships have joined Transmasters progressively in July and August 2023 and deployed on the China-Russia service that calls at Lianyungang, Taicang, Nansha, Colom

OOCL is adding 2 intra-Asia services connecting China, Cambodia and Thailand through slots on 2 existing services. The China Cambodia Thailand 1 (CCT1) service calls at Bangkok (PAT/Suksawat), Laem Chabang, Ho Chi Minh City, Ningbo, Shanghai, Laem Chabang, Bangkok starting from 5 November 2023. The service is offered through slots on the RBC1/BC1 service operated by RCL and CUL. The service turns in 3 weeks using 3 ships of 1,100-1,700 teu. X-Press Feeders adds Mediterranean X-Press (MEDX) through slots on HMM

X-Press Feeders have introduced a new Mediterranean X-Press (MEDX) service that connects Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Karachi, Jeddah, Damietta, Piraeus, Genoa, Valencia, Barcelona, Piraeus, Damietta, Jeddah, Karachi, Mundra, Nhava Sheva starting from 29 September 2023. The MEDX service is offered through slots on the India-Med leg of HMM's Far East-India-Med (FIM) service that operates on a fortnightly basis using 6 ships of 6,700-8,500 teu.

Aladin Express make pioneer call at Jazan port

Aladin Express has added a call at Hutchison Ports Jazan on its India-Turkey Express (ITX) service from 28 September 2023 with the 1,496 teu WARNOW BOATSWAIN. The ITX connects Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Istanbul but the port calls and service frequency are irregular. Vietnam Gulf India (VGI) upgrade - CMA CGM joins as vessel operator

The Vietnam Gulf India/RCL Gulf Asean/Vietnam Gulf Express/Saigon Gulf Service (VGI/RGA/VGX/SGS) service jointly operated by ESL, KMTC, RCL, CU Lines and Global Feeder Shipping will be upgraded from the 2,500 teu scale to 5,500 teu starting from September 2023, with CMA CGM joining as the 6th partner in the service who brands it as the Vietnam Gulf India (VGI) service. Boluda Lines and Samskip launch Spain-Ireland-UK shortsea service

Boluda Lines and Samskip have jointly launched a new Spain-Ireland-UK service connecting Santander, Dublin, Liverpool, Santander using the 803 teu LUCIA B from 29 September 2023. The service turns in 1 week using a single ship from Boluda, with Samskip taking slots. In northern Spain, the service will call at Boluda Maritime Terminals Santander that was opened by Boluda in April 2023 at a total cost of  €40 m with a capacity of 110,000 teu a year.

CNC updates Korea China Southeast Asia (KCS) service rotation

CNC (CMA CGM) will add a new call at Dalian on its Korea China Southeast Asia (KCS) service from 30 September 2023, with the revised rotation calling at Xingang, Dalian, Lianyungang, Qingdao, Singapore, Jakarta, Surabaya, Manila, Xingang. The service turns in 35 days using 5 ships of 4,000-6,000 teu with KMTC, ONE and SITC taking slots.

Akkon has extended its Far East-Med service with a new call at Qingdao from 21 September 2023 to serve the North China market. The revised Far East service will call at Qingdo, Taicang, Ningbo, Nansha, Mundra, Aliaga, Gemlik, Gebze, Ambarli, Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Qingdao on a fortnightly frequency using 4 ships of 1,700-1,900 teu. HMM extends Intra-Asia Cross Network (ICN) to Indonesia & reinstate Philippines TTP service

HMM will revamp its Intra-Asia Cross Network (ICN) service with the extension of the service to Indonesia, while splitting the exising Philippines connection to a separate Tianjin to Philippines (TTP) service. The ICN was first launched in May 2022 and replaced its former Korea Vietnam Thailand Express (KVX/KTX) that was jointly operated with KMTC and its standalone Tianjin to Philippines (TTP) service.
